Unfortunately the weather turned very rainy (and a member of the team got a little sick). Nevertheless, we did some nice images and sound recordings at the central train station of Vilnius, where Fania after the liberation of the city had come to wait many times for the return of her younger sister Rivka from the German concentration camps - to no avail. Afterwards we drove near by Ponar, where we "ambushed" freight trains out of the woodwork that passed in an impressive manner. In yesterday's interview, Fania had spoken of "Oifgab'n" which targeted German supply trains. On our way back to the parking, we promptly got lost in the woods - as it had happened to Fania on her first mission.
Tomorrow the liquidation of the Vilna Ghetto will be commemorated in Ponar - its anniversary was actually today, but the ceremony had been postponed to Monday to accomodate officials. We will accompany Fania on the bus provided by the Jewish community - then probably again with the complete team.
